*Former UFC fighter Tim Kennedy among those injured in mid-September clash.*

**Scores for the source reporting** (0-100, assessing the original journalism this article was written from, not this write-up):

- Trust 42 of 100, higher is better. Central claim rests on anonymous sourcing; two independent outlets cited.
- Craft 57 of 100, higher is better. Reporting is thin, with no quotes or right of reply; facts are specific.
- Hype 68 of 100, lower is better. Headlines promise exclusive details not present in the digests, and use loaded language.

## How the sides framed it

### Left

- IndexHR, UOL, Mediaite and fakti.bg all reported that former UFC fighter and former US special‑forces operative Tim Kennedy was wounded in an ambush in the Democratic Republic of Congo on 17 September, and that roughly twenty people were killed or injured.
- IndexHR led on a New Zealand Herald report, citing war correspondent Robert Young Pelton and Delta Force member Brent Tucker, and added Kennedy’s MMA record and US service. UOL led on Reuters information, giving the South Kivu location, a casualty breakdown, Kennedy’s treatment at Walter Reed, Vectus Global’s role, and alleged Rwandan army involvement. Mediaite’s digest only noted forces linked to Erik Prince were ambushed, while fakti.bg’s digest repeated the death toll and mentioned a SPORTbible citation.
- None of the left‑rated outlets quoted Erik Prince or a Vectus Global spokesperson; the IndexHR report did not include any Congolese official comment, and the UOL article noted Vectus Global declined comment but gave no further response. The Mediaite and fakti.bg digests omitted casualty breakdowns, location specifics and background on Kennedy’s military career that appeared in the full reports.

### Centre

- The centre-rated report led with the ambush of private security forces linked to Blackwater founder Erik Prince in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It stated that approximately 20 people were killed or injured, including a popular former UFC fighter.

### Right

- The right-rated report focused on former UFC star Tim Kennedy being shot multiple times while working with a private military contractor in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It noted he was reportedly shot during an ambush.

**Provisional coverage gap:** left. The watch is not closed, so this is not yet a settled blindspot finding.
