Four explosions were heard on Iran's Qeshm Island on Sunday evening, according to Iranian state media. Reports from Iranian news agencies indicated that some areas of the island may have been struck by projectiles. The exact cause and nature of the explosions remain unconfirmed by independent sources. US President Donald Trump confirmed that the US had carried out a "minor strike" on Qeshm Island over the weekend. This incident follows a similar limited strike on November 3, which was reportedly a response to Iran's IRGC attempting to target an American aircraft. ## Disagreement on projectile source Iranian state media reported that some areas of Qeshm Island appear to have been struck by projectiles. However, IMLebanon, citing Iranian television, reported that three projectiles were launched from the Sirik area toward the Strait of Hormuz, while the Fars News Agency suggested sites on Qeshm Island may have been targeted. Other reports, such as from Anadolu Ajansı, suggest local sources indicated the sounds came from warning shots in the Strait of Hormuz. ## What the coverage left out None of the left-rated or centre-rated reports mention the claim from IMLebanon that the Tasnim News Agency reported the explosions in Bandar Abbas and Sirik were related to actions by Iranian forces. None of the right-rated digests mention President Trump's specific quote about destroying a small anti-aircraft device, nor do they mention the November 3 strike and its stated reason. ## Who covered it Shares of the 6 covering outlets with a published leaning rating: - Left: 17% (1) - Centre: 16% (1) - Right: 67% (4) 14 of 20 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. The report included a direct quote from US President Donald Trump stating the US conducted "minor strikes" and destroyed a small anti-aircraft device. It also noted that there was no independent confirmation of the recent reports regarding projectiles being fired towards the island, and it remained unclear if the strike caused damage or casualties. ### Centre - The Jerusalem Post, the centre-rated report, focused on Iranian state media IRNA reporting four explosions heard on Qeshm Island. It stated that a correspondent on the island said some areas appeared to have been struck by projectiles, but the source and nature of the explosions were not confirmed. The report also mentioned that explosions were heard on Qeshm Island and other locations on Saturday evening, and included President Trump's confirmation of a "minor strike" on Qeshm Island over the weekend. It also noted a previous strike on November 3 in response to Iran's IRGC attempting to target an American aircraft. ### Right - The right-rated reports from Anadolu Ajansı, vz.ru, and Yonhap News Agency primarily highlighted that explosions were heard in southern Iran, specifically on Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas. Anadolu Ajansı cited local sources suggesting the sounds came from warning shots in the Strait of Hormuz. Vz.ru reported that IRNA stated explosions were heard and some areas were probably affected, but local and provincial sources had not commented. Yonhap News Agency reported that several explosions were heard on the southern Iranian island of Geshom, citing IRNA. **Provisional coverage gap:** left.
