# Five drones entered Moldova's airspace, authorities report

*Fragments found across four districts after explosions, with no casualties reported.*

**Scores for the source reporting** (0-100, assessing the original journalism this article was written from, not this write-up):

- Trust 42 of 100, higher is better. Central claims attributed to named bodies, but key facts hedged with 'reportedly' and no independent outlets cited.
- Craft 61 of 100, higher is better. Reporting is clear and holds together, with specific details provided and context given.
- Hype 41 of 100, lower is better. Headline promises more than the body delivers, with mild sensationalism and a lively but fair headline.

**The short version**

- Five drones entered Moldovan airspace between 7:45 AM and 8:00 AM on October 3.
- Fragments of drones were discovered in at least four districts, including Căuşeni, Ştefan Vodă, Anenii Noi, and Hînceşti.
- An explosion near Crocmaz village caused a vegetation fire and damaged building windows.
- Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that five Russian airstrikes, including missiles and drones, entered the country's airspace.

Five drones entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on the morning of October 3, between 7:45 AM and 8:00 AM. Fragments of these unmanned aircraft were found in at least four districts: Căuşeni, Ştefan Vodă, Anenii Noi, and Hînceşti. An explosion near the village of Crocmaz in Ştefan Vodă district resulted in a vegetation fire and damaged the windows of a nearby building. No casualties were reported.

## Conflicting accounts of aircraft types

Reports differ on the exact nature of the aircraft that entered Moldovan airspace. Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that five Russian airstrikes, including missiles and drones, entered the country's airspace. The Ministry of Defence of Chisinau confirmed that five unmanned aircraft were detected. Other reports mention only drones, while some specify a mix of missiles and drones.

## What the coverage left out

None of the left or centre-rated reports printed below mention any specific Russian denial or statement regarding the drone incursions. The full report from HotNews.ro and the digests from other outlets do not include any claims or counterclaims from Russian authorities.

## Who covered it

Shares of the 12 covering outlets with a published leaning rating:

- Left: 58% (7)
- Centre: 25% (3)
- Right: 17% (2)

56 of 68 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. Coverage measured 2026-10-03T12:45:12.643333+00:00.

## How the sides framed it

### Left

- The left-rated reports focused on the confirmed entry of drones into Moldovan airspace and the subsequent discovery of wreckage. HotNews.ro, in its full report, detailed the Ministry of Defence's confirmation of five unmanned aircraft and cited police reports of explosions and drone fragments in multiple districts, including specific locations near Crocmaz. United24 and The Kyiv Post highlighted the number of drones and the geographical spread of the debris. IndexHR noted the explosions and drone remains found in several locations following a Russian attack on Ukraine.

### Centre

- The centre-rated reports highlighted statements from Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the confirmed presence of Russian aerial objects. The Kyiv Independent's digest included a quote from President Sandu stating that Russian missiles and drones exploded over Moldova's territory. Cedarnews.net's digest also mentioned the entry of drones into Moldova's airspace on Saturday morning.

### Right

- Both Realitatea.net and news-pravda.com reported that on the morning of 3 October, explosions were heard in several districts of Moldova after unmanned aerial vehicles entered the country's airspace. The incidents were described as a security breach.
- Realitatea.net led on the description of an unprecedented security situation, noting that authorities said drones overflew the airspace illegally, that explosions and drone fragments were found, and that police teams and explosives specialists were deployed, with the information attributed to Agora.md.
- news-pravda.com led on the timing of the blasts, stating they occurred between 7:50 am and 8:03 am local time, and reported that the Russian ambassador to Moldova was summoned to the ministry. Neither digest mentioned the total number of drones involved.

**Provisional coverage gap:** right. The watch is not closed, so this is not yet a settled blindspot finding.
