# Man jailed for life for Israeli embassy attack attempt

*Abdullah Albadri sentenced to minimum 20 years for trying to climb fence with knives.*

**Scores for the source reporting** (0-100, assessing the original journalism this article was written from, not this write-up):

- Trust 42 of 100, higher is better. Central claim attributed to named body, with two independent outlets and specific date/location.
- Craft 61 of 100, higher is better. Quotes from affected parties, clear fact/comment separation, and specific details provided.
- Hype 41 of 100, lower is better. Headline promises a life sentence, which is delivered, but uses loaded language like 'terrorist'.

- Albadri had previously been refused asylum after entering the UK twice by small boat.

Abdullah Albadri, 34, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 20 years for attempting to attack the Israeli embassy in London. Albadri, who was born in Kuwait, attempted to climb the embassy fence in April 2025 armed with two 4-inch knives. He stated his intention was to "exact revenge" for the killing of children in Gaza. He was tackled by armed police and arrested at the scene.

The court heard that Albadri had previously been refused asylum after entering the UK twice by small boat in August 2021 and April 2025. He was found guilty of preparing to commit an act of terrorism and possession of sharp weapons. The prosecution stated that Albadri intended to use the knives to kill and injure people randomly, and that his plan was not a half-hearted enterprise. His defence argued his plan could not have succeeded and that he was seeking attention.

## Disagreement on sentence adjustment

The Evening Standard reported that the sentence was adjusted to 18 years and 207 days less time served on remand. Other reports did not mention this adjustment.

## What the coverage left out

None of the left-rated reports mention Albadri's defence barrister's argument that his plan "could never ever have succeeded" and that there was "no serious risk of any harm to anybody". The right-rated reports do not mention Albadri's statement that he had been jailed and mistreated for campaigning for human rights in Kuwait, as reported in The National's full report.

## How the sides framed it

### Left

- The left-rated reports led on Abdullah Albadri being jailed for life for attempting to attack the Israeli embassy. The National and Haaretz both highlighted that Albadri was a failed asylum seeker. The National's full report stated Albadri was born into the stateless Arabian Bedoon tribe and had previously told the court he had been jailed and mistreated for campaigning for human rights in Kuwait. Haaretz noted he was convicted of preparing an act of terrorism.

### Centre

- Centre-rated reports focused on Abdullah Albadri being jailed for life for planning a knife attack on the Israeli embassy. The Evening Standard and Sky News UK both stated he was a failed asylum seeker. The Globe & Mail reported Albadri carried a note saying he hoped to die a martyr. Reuters and The Straits Times mentioned he was armed with two knives and carrying a "martyrdom note" when he tried to enter the embassy. Jerusalem Post noted he was stopped by armed police officers guarding the site.

### Right

- Right-rated reports highlighted Abdullah Albadri, a failed asylum seeker, being jailed for life for attempting to attack the Israeli embassy. VINnews and Arab News stated he tried to climb the embassy fence while carrying two knives. Independent Journal Review reported he received life with a 20-year minimum for trying to scale the fence with two knives and a martyrdom note. The Jewish Chronicle stated he was tackled by armed police at the embassy in April 2025. GB News reported he was jailed for life with a minimum of 20 years after trying to break into the embassy to launch a knife attack.
