Mohamed Soliman pleaded guilty to nine federal hate-crime counts and three federal weapon charges for a firebomb attack on demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado, in June 2025. Soliman is already serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to state charges related to the same incident. Federal prosecutors are seeking an additional sentence of life imprisonment plus 50 years.

During the attack, Soliman threw two Molotov cocktails at demonstrators who were supporting hostages taken during the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel. Soliman shouted "Free Palestine" as he threw the devices. The attack resulted in the death of 82-year-old Karen Diamond, who died three weeks later from her injuries, and injured about a dozen other demonstrators.

## Disagreement on sentencing recommendation

Washington Top News reported that federal prosecutors said they would seek a life term plus 50 years. The same report stated that Colorado U.S. District Judge John Kane said he would review sentencing guidelines before deciding whether to accept or reject the prosecutors’ recommendation, noting the guidelines are not binding and he had not made up his mind about the sentence.
