Russia has agreed to supply Iran with 90 APU-L and APU-305 missile launchers. These systems are designed for the 'Izdelije 305' guided missile, a weapon Russian forces have used in Ukraine. The agreement is based on Russian defense industry production documents reviewed by the Financial Times. The same documents indicate that China has ordered 192 APU-305 launchers from Russia. ## Disagreement on missile details While most reports state the launchers are for the 'Izdelije 305' missile, one digest from unn.ua specifies that the launchers are for 'Virib 305' guided missiles. This same digest also states the missiles are capable of hitting moving targets up to 14 kilometers away and are launched from Mi-28 helicopters. ## What the coverage left out None of the left, centre, or right-rated reports mention the specific defense companies involved in the production or the request for accelerated component delivery, details present in the unn.ua full report. ## Who covered it Shares of the 7 covering outlets with a published leaning rating: - Left: 57% (4) - Centre: 29% (2) - Right: 14% (1) 14 of 21 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. These reports highlighted that the 'Izdelije 305' missile is employed by Russian forces in the conflict. Digests from unn.ua, United24, rbc.ua, and censor.net all carried this information. The unn.ua full report also detailed that the launchers are for APU-L and APU-305 systems and that China has ordered 192 APU-305 launchers. ### Centre - Two centre-rated reports highlighted Russia's deepening military partnership with Iran through the sale of missile launchers. Digi 24 and Portfolio both noted that the launchers are for missiles used by Russian forces in Ukraine. Digi 24 also included a quote from Nicole Grajewski, a non-resident scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, stating that the deal shows Russia's willingness to supply Iran despite its own war needs and Western objections. Portfolio's digest stated that Russia sold 90 launchers for 'Izdelije 305' guided missiles. ### Right - The single right-rated report, a digest from Korrespondent.net, mentioned that Iran already possesses Russian Mi-28 attack helicopters, which could be equipped with these weapons. The digest did not explicitly state the number of launchers or the specific missile type. ## Factuality profile of the covering outlets These are published factuality ratings of the outlets, not a verdict on whether this story or its claims are true. - high: 7 - unknown: 14 ## Verification scope This page compares coverage and scores the source reporting.
