**Scores for the source reporting** (0-100, assessing the original journalism this article was written from, not this write-up):

- Trust 60 of 100, higher is better. Central claim attributed to named body (AP) and supported by 13 named soldiers and several Gold Star families.
- Craft 65 of 100, higher is better. Reporting includes quotes from affected individuals and names specific dates, places, and roles.
- Hype 45 of 100, lower is better. Headline promises an exclusive, but the story is widely reported across the spectrum.

**The short version**

- Six soldiers were killed and dozens injured in a drone strike at Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, on March 1.
- The attack occurred the day after President Donald Trump began the war against Iran.
- Wounded soldiers and Gold Star families are questioning Army leadership, stating commanders had been warned the facility was vulnerable to drone attacks.
- The Army completed its investigation in June but has not yet released a report.

A drone strike on March 1 killed six soldiers and injured dozens more at Port Shuaiba in Kuwait. The attack occurred on the day after President Donald Trump initiated the war against Iran. Wounded soldiers have told the Associated Press that commanders had been warned the facility was vulnerable to drone strikes.

The Army completed its investigation into the attack in June. However, the report has not been released, with the Army citing the need to redact sensitive information and to brief the families of those killed first. The Pentagon declined to comment on the AP's reporting.

## Disagreement on preparedness

Washington Top News reported that wounded soldiers stated commanders had been warned the facility was particularly vulnerable to a drone strike, and that this warning went unheeded. Some soldiers also said higher-ranking officers pushed for an all-clear to be called, though it was unclear who made the final decision to move troops from safer bunkers. The outlet also reported that some soldiers said their serious injuries were not treated promptly or adequately in the weeks following the attack. The Army declined to comment on the AP's reporting.

## Omissions in coverage

None of the right-rated digests mention that the war has resulted in 19 U.S. personnel killed, more than 800 wounded, and at least $44 billion spent. None of the right-rated digests mention the Army completed its investigation in June but has not released a report.

## Who covered it

Shares of the 27 covering outlets with a published leaning rating:

1 of 28 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. Coverage measured 2026-10-05T14:30:08.782411+00:00.

## How the sides framed it

### Left

- Thirteen left-rated reports focused on the claims of wounded soldiers and Gold Star families regarding Army leadership and preparedness. Several digests highlighted that the attack was the deadliest on U.S. troops during the war with Iran. Some reports also mentioned that the military's medical system failed the seriously wounded soldiers. HuffPost noted that the soldiers' criticism came against a backdrop of years of disinvestment in the Middle East by multiple administrations.

### Centre

- Nine centre-rated reports focused on the claims of wounded soldiers and Gold Star families. These reports highlighted that commanders had been warned of the facility's vulnerability and that the military's medical system failed the seriously wounded. Digests from this group often began by stating that some U.S. soldiers gravely wounded in the strike said the military's medical system failed them.

### Right

- The two right-rated reports focused on the claims of wounded soldiers that the military's medical system failed them after the Iranian drone strike. One digest mentioned shrapnel hitting an Army lieutenant colonel's body like shattered glass.

**Provisional coverage gap:** right. The watch is not closed, so this is not yet a settled blindspot finding.
