Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru has died at the age of 57. His family announced his passing in a statement posted on his Instagram page. The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) also confirmed Duru's death, describing him as a great thespian. Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood (BON), corroborated the news.

Months before his death, Duru had publicly pushed back against reports claiming he was critically ill. He described such claims as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and condemned videos circulating about his health as a wicked narrative. Duru insisted he had never been in the condition portrayed in the clips and criticised those spreading false information about his wellbeing. He also expressed concern over the misuse of artificial intelligence to manipulate images and videos of public figures.

Francis Duru was born in Cameroon to Nigerian parents and studied Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt. He began his acting career in 1989. Duru gained prominence for his role as Ahanna in the 1995 film "Rattlesnake". He featured in numerous other films throughout his career and received a United Nations Ambassador of Peace award in 2007. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2010.
