# BC Conservatives drop candidate Jordan McIntosh over alleged Holocaust remarks

*The party removed the 18-year-old candidate after screenshots of alleged social media posts surfaced.*

**Scores for the source reporting** (0-100, assessing the original journalism this article was written from, not this write-up):

- Trust 42 of 100, higher is better. Central claim attributed to a named body, with one outlet providing a full report and others citing it.
- Craft 57 of 100, higher is better. Most outlets provided digests, with only one full report; some reports lacked detail on the vetting process.
- Hype 41 of 100, lower is better. Headlines promise a story about Hitler remarks, but the body focuses on candidate removal and vetting concerns.

**The short version**

- The B.C. Conservatives removed candidate Jordan McIntosh after accusations of offensive social media posts.
- The alleged posts, linked to McIntosh, reportedly minimized aspects of the Holocaust.
- McIntosh is 18 years old, and the party stated the posts appear to have been made when he was 15.
- This is the second candidate the B.C. Conservatives have dropped over social media posts.

The B.C. Conservatives have dropped candidate Jordan McIntosh following accusations of offensive social media posts. The party stated McIntosh is no longer its candidate for Vancouver-Strathcona. This action follows Callista Ryan, the NDP candidate for Vancouver-Quilchena, posting screenshots of alleged remarks on social media.

The posts, linked to an account associated with McIntosh, allegedly minimized aspects of the Holocaust. The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs stated the posts were "reprehensible and harmed our community by distorting the history of the Holocaust." The party said McIntosh is 18 years old and that the posts appear to have been made when he was 15.

This is the second time the B.C. Conservatives have removed a candidate due to offensive social media posts. Last week, the party dismissed Joachim Agou over remarks targeting Palestinians and Pakistanis.

## Disagreement on alleged post content

While most reports state the alleged posts minimized aspects of the Holocaust, one digest from Le Devoir stated: "According to Jordan McIntosh, there were too many Jews in Nazi Germany."

## What the coverage left out

None of the left-rated digests mention the specific age of Jordan McIntosh when the alleged posts were made, only that he is 18 years old. None of the centre-rated digests mention the specific age of Jordan McIntosh when the alleged posts were made, only that he is 18 years old. The right-rated digest did not mention the specific age of Jordan McIntosh when the alleged posts were made, only that he is 18 years old.

## How the sides framed it

### Left

- Reports from the left led on the removal of Jordan McIntosh as a candidate due to alleged offensive social media posts. These reports detailed that the posts, linked to McIntosh, allegedly minimized aspects of the Holocaust. They noted that McIntosh is 18 years old and the party stated the posts appear to have been made when he was 15. The left-rated reports also highlighted that this is the second time the B.C. Conservatives have dropped a candidate over offensive social media posts, mentioning the previous dismissal of Joachim Agou. Several digests from this side included the phrase "Jordan McIntosh is accused of posting online about Hitler, the Holocaust using an anonymous account."

### Centre

- The centre-rated reports focused on the B.C. Conservatives dropping candidate Jordan McIntosh after accusations of remarks about Hitler and the Holocaust. These reports stated that the party confirmed McIntosh is no longer a candidate and that if elected, he would not sit in caucus. They mentioned that Callista Ryan, the NDP candidate, posted screenshots of the alleged remarks. The digests from this side frequently used the phrasing "The British Columbia Conservatives have dumped a candidate in the provincial election after he was accused of posting online remarks about Hitler and the Holocaust."

### Right

- The single right-rated report highlighted that the B.C. Conservatives dropped their second candidate over social media posts concerning Hitler and the Holocaust. The digest included a photograph of Lorne Doerkson, interim leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, from a previous event.

**Provisional coverage gap:** right. The watch is not closed, so this is not yet a settled blindspot finding.
