The British Columbia Conservative Party has secured a majority government in the 2026 provincial election. Following the results, BC NDP Leader David Eby has resigned from his position. Eby was, however, re-elected in his riding of Vancouver-Point Grey. ## Disagreement on election outcome Multiple reports indicate that the Canadian Press decision desk projected David Eby's re-election in Vancouver-Point Grey, while simultaneously projecting his party's loss in the overall election to the BC Conservative Party. One report states that the BC NDP leader lost the election to Lorne Doerkson and the BC Conservatives, and was projected to hold onto his seat. Another report notes that Eby has held the riding since 2013. Bloomberg reports that British Columbia is set to elect its first Conservative Party majority in 98 years. ## What the coverage left out None of the left-rated or centre-rated digests mention the specific year the election was called, other than it being a snap election called by David Eby. The leader of the BC Conservatives, Lorne Doerkson, is named in some reports, but his specific role in the election victory is not detailed. ## Who covered it Shares of the 51 covering outlets with a published leaning rating: - Left: 77% (39) - Centre: 21% (11) - Right: 2% (1) 3 of 54 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. These reports consistently stated that the BC Conservatives, led by Lorne Doerkson, won a majority government. They also noted that Eby's decision to call a snap election backfired. Multiple reports mentioned that Eby was projected to be re-elected in his Vancouver-Point Grey riding. ### Centre - All eleven centre-rated reports highlighted David Eby's re-election in his Vancouver-Point Grey riding, while simultaneously reporting his party's loss to the BC Conservative Party. These reports also noted Eby's resignation as leader of the BC NDP. Several digests mentioned that Eby had held the riding since 2013. One report stated that British Columbia is set to elect its first Conservative Party majority in 98 years. ### Right No separate framing summary. **Provisional coverage gap:** right.
