Central claim attributed to named bodies and specific figures provided with origins, but relies on anonymous sourcing for allegations. - Craft 60 of 100, higher is better. Reports include quotes from affected parties and name specific figures, but lack detail on what happens next. - Hype 45 of 100, lower is better. Headlines and digests mention allegations and scandal, but the substance of the reporting is factual. Democrat Brian Poindexter has won the election for Ohio's 7th Congressional District, defeating Republican incumbent Max Miller. Miller, a two-term congressman, faced allegations of domestic abuse toward his ex-wife and young daughter, which he denied. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report had shifted the race rating from solid Republican to a toss-up in August. The House Ethics Committee announced in early August that it was reviewing allegations of domestic abuse and illegal drug use against Miller. Miller had requested an ethics investigation into himself to clear his name. Senator Bernie Moreno, Miller's former father-in-law, had called for Miller to resign, citing "increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior." In fundraising, Poindexter raised $2.4 million in the third quarter, according to Federal Election Commission records. Miller raised $145,000 and loaned his campaign $1 million. Poindexter highlighted the allegations against Miller in campaign ads, including one that featured audio of Moreno speaking to reporters. Miller responded with an ad denying the abuse allegations and stating he has equal custody of his daughter. ## Disagreement on specific allegations Dailymail.com reported that Miller's ex-wife, Emily Moreno, accused him in court filings of scalding her with hot water, holding a gun to her head, and hitting her. The New York Post stated Miller's re-election bid was hampered by a public custody battle with his estranged spouse Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno. CBS News reported that Miller denied the allegations of domestic abuse toward his ex-wife and young daughter. ## What the coverage left out None of the left-rated digests mention the specific allegations of scalding with hot water, holding a gun to his head, or hitting that dailymail.com attributed to Miller's ex-wife. None of the right-rated digests mention the fundraising figures for either candidate. ## Who covered it Shares of the 61 covering outlets with a published leaning rating: - Left: 46% (28) - Centre: 38% (23) - Right: 16% (10) 2 of 63 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. Coverage measured 2026-11-04T19:48:32.987Z. **Coverage watch:** developing. Checked 16 times; 1 check found a material change. Most recently checked 2026-11-05T11:00:46.903Z. ## How the sides framed it ### Left - The left-rated reports focused on Brian Poindexter's victory and the allegations against Max Miller. Multiple digests stated Poindexter won, with some identifying him as a union ironworker and former Brook Park City Council member. The DCCC statement congratulated Poindexter on his victory. Reports from this side frequently mentioned the domestic abuse allegations against Miller, with some digests noting his ex-wife's accusations and the House Ethics Committee review. The shift in the Cook Political Report's rating to a toss-up was also noted by some digests. ### Centre - All twelve centre‑rated outlets reported that Democrat Brian Poindexter defeated incumbent Republican Max Miller in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District. The digests from outlets such as Battlefords NOW, Winnipeg Free Press, The Hill, KXLH.com and others each led on the result and identified Poindexter as a union ironworker and former Brook Park city‑council member. CBS News and the Akron Beacon Journal also led on the same outcome. - CBS News added that Miller faced domestic‑abuse allegations, pressure from GOP colleagues, and a House Ethics Committee review, and noted the Cook Political Report’s shift from solid Republican to toss‑up. The Akron Beacon Journal reported the same abuse claims, Miller’s $1 million personal loan, the Democratic Congressional Committee’s Red‑to‑Blue investment and detailed fundraising totals of roughly $3 million for Poindexter versus $1.7 million for Miller. - None of the digests mention the domestic‑abuse allegations, the Cook Political Report rating change, the House Ethics Committee review, the Democratic Congressional Committee’s Red‑to‑Blue support, or the specific fundraising figures reported by CBS News and the Akron Beacon Journal. The digests therefore provide only the election result and Poindexter’s occupational background. ### Right - Right-rated reports focused on Max Miller's loss, often linking it to the allegations against him. Digests from this side mentioned that Miller's campaign was overshadowed by domestic violence allegations from his ex-wife. The Daily Mail digest specified accusations from Miller's ex-wife, Emily Moreno, including scalding her with hot water and holding a gun to her head, while noting Miller denied the claims. The New York Post digest also highlighted the public custody battle with his estranged spouse, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Senator Bernie Moreno. The Washington Examiner digest described Miller as "scandal-plagued." **Provisional coverage gap:** right. The watch is not closed, so this is not yet a settled blindspot finding. ## Factuality profile of the covering outlets These are published factuality ratings of the outlets, not a verdict on whether this story or its claims are true. - veryLow: 1 - low: 1 - mixed: 6 - high: 31 - unknown: 3 - veryHigh: 21 ## Verification scope This page compares coverage and scores the source reporting.
