The central claim is attributed to the Associated Press and other named outlets, with one full report providing details. - Craft 59 of 100, higher is better. The reporting is clear and holds together, with specific details provided in the full report. - Hype 41 of 100, lower is better. Headlines and digests use strong language like 'trifecta' and 'historic,' but the substance is factual. Scored by MediaBias News; method at https://mediabias.news/methodology. **The short version** - Democrats have achieved a trifecta in Arizona, controlling the governorship and both legislative chambers for the first time in 60 years. - Republicans had held the Arizona House for six decades and the Senate since the early 1990s. - The Associated Press confirmed the legislative chamber flips on Friday. - Democrats also gained trifectas in at least five other states and flipped legislative chambers in Maine, North Carolina, and New Hampshire. Democrats in Arizona have won control of both legislative chambers and retained the governor's office, marking the party's first trifecta in the state since 1966. Republicans had held the state House of Representatives for 60 years and the Senate since the early 1990s. The Associated Press confirmed the legislative chamber flips on Friday, following the tallying of votes. Nationwide, Democrats made significant gains in the midterm elections, taking full control of statehouse chambers and governors' offices in at least six states where power was previously shared with Republicans. These states include Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Wisconsin. Democrats also flipped the lower chambers of the legislatures in Maine and North Carolina, and both chambers in New Hampshire. The National Council of State Legislatures indicated this election cycle could result in the most legislative seats and chambers changing parties since 2010. ## Disagreement on specific legislative control While the Associated Press confirmed the legislative chamber flips on Friday, Arizona Capitol Times reported on Wednesday that if current results hold, Democrats would lead the House 37-23 and the Senate 20-10. The Center Square reported that Governor Katie Hobbs was reelected and Kris Mayes was reelected as Attorney General, stating Democrats maintained control of the executive branch. ## What the coverage left out None of the right-rated reports below mention the specific legislative seat projections for the House and Senate that were included in the Arizona Capitol Times report. Additionally, none of the right-rated reports detail the broader national context of Democratic gains in other states or the potential for the election to be the most significant in terms of party shifts since 2010, as mentioned in the Washington Top News report. ## Who covered it Shares of the 61 covering outlets with a published leaning rating: - Left: 43% (26) - Centre: 49% (30) - Right: 8% (5) 8 of 69 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. Several reports from this side, including Arizona Capitol Times, emphasized the potential for advancing policy with a friendly legislature, quoting Governor Katie Hobbs on her plans to address issues like water, affordability, and the school voucher program. Arizona Capitol Times also included projections of legislative seat counts, with Democrats leading the House 37-23 and the Senate 20-10. This outlet also featured commentary from Democratic lobbyists and consultants discussing bipartisan governance and the pressure to deliver on campaign promises. Other left-rated outlets focused on the broader national context of Democratic gains in the midterm elections. ### Centre - Centre-rated reports focused on the factual outcome of Democrats winning control of the governorship and both legislative chambers in Arizona for the first time in 60 years. Many of these reports, such as those from Washington Top News, KCRG, WALB News 10, WECT News, meadowlakeNOW, Ckpg Today, and Battlefords NOW, used similar phrasing to describe the event, often citing the Associated Press. They noted that Republicans had held the House for 60 years and the Senate since the early 1990s. Some reports also mentioned the national context of Democratic gains in the midterm elections and the party taking control of both chambers of Congress. ### Right - Right-rated reports from The Gateway Pundit and California Globe focused on the shift in Arizona's political landscape, with The Gateway Pundit using the phrase 'Arizona Turns Blue, Blue, Blue'. California Globe reported that Governor Katie Hobbs was projected to win reelection and that Democrats were leading for majorities in both legislative chambers. Yonhap News Agency, also rated right, highlighted the 'Democratic Landslide' and the 'Triple Crown' of winning the governor, state Senate, and House for the first time in 60 years. The Center Square reported on Governor Katie Hobbs' reelection and Kris Mayes' reelection as Attorney General, noting Democrats maintained control of the executive branch. **Provisional coverage gap:** right.
