Parents of a 3-year-old boy from the Detroit area have been charged with misdemeanor crimes after their son brought a loaded gun to a daycare. The incident occurred at Childrens World Early Learning Center in Canton Township, Michigan. Prosecutors stated that the firearm, which was in a holster, was passed to other children before a staff member intervened. No one was injured and the gun was not fired.

## Charges filed

One parent was charged with violating Michigan's gun storage law. The other parent, identified as a police officer, faces a charge of creating a risk of harm, classified as fourth-degree child abuse. The firearm involved was not the officer's duty weapon. Both parents appeared in court and were released on bond. Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy's office has handled nearly two dozen gun access cases since 2024.
