*Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used an AI-generated image of a nuclear explosion over Tel Aviv in a social media post.*

**Scores for the source reporting** (0-100, assessing the original journalism this article was written from, not this write-up):

- Trust 42 of 100, higher is better. Central claim attributed to a named individual and a specific outlet, but relies on anonymous sourcing in digests.
- Craft 60 of 100, higher is better. Reports include quotes and context, but some digests are brief and lack detail.
- Hype 65 of 100, lower is better. Headlines and digests use loaded language like 'hysterical' and 'nuclear annihilation'.

**The short version**

- Benjamin Netanyahu published an AI-generated image of a nuclear explosion over Tel Aviv.
- He warned that voting for any other candidate could expose Israelis to the danger of a 'Second Holocaust'.
- The post included text from right-wing activist Yuval Bloomberg, suggesting domestic controversies are a 'smokescreen' compared to the threat from Iran.
- Opposition leaders criticised the post, calling it fearmongering and an attempt to sow panic before the election.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu published an AI-generated image showing a nuclear explosion over Tel Aviv on social media. The post, shared two days before an election, warned that voters choosing any candidate other than him risked a 'Second Holocaust'.

The message shared by Netanyahu included text from right-wing activist Yuval Bloomberg. This text suggested that domestic political controversies were a 'smokescreen' compared to the threat posed by Iran and its allies. It also stated that if nuclear weapons were obtained by Iran, 'nothing else would matter'.

## Disagreement on Netanyahu's previous statements about Iran

Hot News and Digi 24 reported that Netanyahu's post contradicts his previous statements. Both outlets stated that Netanyahu had repeatedly claimed Israel and the US had destroyed Iran's nuclear program during conflicts in 2025 and 2026. Hot News quoted Netanyahu saying at the UN last month, 'We destroyed Iran's atomic weapons', and in March, that Iran 'can no longer threaten our existence'.

## What the coverage left out

None of the left-rated, centre-rated, or right-rated reports mention the specific date of the election, which was stated as October 27, 2026, in some unrated digests.

## Who covered it

Shares of the 65 covering outlets with a published leaning rating:

- Left: 40% (26)
- Centre: 15% (10)
- Right: 45% (29)

62 of 127 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. Coverage measured 2026-10-26T10:46:49.445Z.

**Coverage watch:** developing. Checked 4 times; 1 check found a material change. Most recently checked 2026-10-26T11:00:34.343Z.

## How the sides framed it

### Left

- Left-rated outlets reported that Benjamin Netanyahu shared an AI-generated image of a nuclear blast over Tel Aviv. They stated he warned of a "Second Holocaust" if he lost the upcoming election.
- These reports noted Netanyahu described Iran as an existential threat. Several mentioned his claim that controversies like "Qatargate" were a "smokescreen" from this danger.
- Some left-rated reports included that Netanyahu's rivals accused him of being "hysterical." Others noted the timing of the post, two days before the election, and his perceived political distress.

### Centre

- The centre-rated report from Digi 24 focused on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's publication of an AI-generated image of a nuclear explosion over Tel Aviv. It stated that the post, shared two days before the election, warned of the danger of a 'Second Holocaust' if another candidate was elected. The report included the text from Yuval Bloomberg and noted that the post contradicted Netanyahu's previous statements about Iran's nuclear program. It also detailed the critical responses from opposition leaders, including Gadi Eisenkot and Yair Golan.

### Right

- Right-rated reports from The Most Important News and Bild highlighted Netanyahu's warning about the possibility of nuclear war in the Middle East and his warning of a 'second holocaust' in an opposition election. Bild stated that Netanyahu countered 'lie and panic mache'. The Most Important News framed the story as a question: 'Could we soon witness nuclear war in the Middle East? Benjamin Netanyahu seems to think so.'

**Provisional coverage gap:** right. The watch is not closed, so this is not yet a settled blindspot finding.
