Former senator Pamela Wallin testified at an inquiry into a leaked confidential report about the MAID committee. Wallin described the committee's process as 'chaotic and exclusionary' and called its co-chair 'dismissive'. Wallin resigned from the Senate earlier this month after 17 years. The government has introduced a bill to ban people who suffer from mental illness alone from accessing MAID. ## Disagreement on committee process and inquiry motivation Liberal MP Dr. Marcus Powlowski, the committee's co-chair, denied leaking information and stated the committee followed the rules. Powlowski suggested the inquiry was an attempt by senators to undermine the democratic process. Wallin, in her testimony, did not name the co-chair she took issue with but clarified it was not Senator Yonah Martin. She stated the co-chair was dismissive of questions about the process and described meetings as 'in-camera'. ## What the coverage left out None of the reports below mention the dissenting opinion penned by Wallin and two other senators, which called the committee's process 'highly irregular and flawed'. ## Who covered it Shares of the 29 covering outlets with a published leaning rating: - Left: 69% (20) - Centre: 31% (9) - Right: 0% (0) 2 of 31 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. This report detailed that Wallin testified at an inquiry into a leaked confidential report and mentioned her resignation from the Senate after 17 years. It also noted the government's introduction of a bill to ban individuals with mental illness alone from accessing MAID.
