**The short version**

- Donald Trump said he would consider Nicki Minaj for White House press secretary, calling it 'a good idea'.
- White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted a photo of Minaj on Air Force One with a caption suggesting she could be the new press secretary.
- Minaj appeared with Trump at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on October 25.
- The current White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, had served for less than a week.

President Donald Trump has stated he is considering the possibility of rapper Nicki Minaj becoming the White House press secretary. The idea gained traction after White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted a photograph of Minaj aboard Air Force One with a caption suggesting she might be the new press secretary. Trump responded to the suggestion by saying, "That's a good idea. I think I'll have to think about that," when asked by journalist Benny Johnson. Minaj had recently appeared with Trump at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on October 25, where she expressed her support for him.

## Disagreement on Trump's exact words

RadarOnline reports that President Donald Trump said "That's a good idea" when asked about Nicki Minaj becoming White House press secretary on The Benny Show. Telegrafi reports that Trump said he would have to think about the idea when asked by journalist Benny Johnson. Both outlets agree that Trump indicated a positive inclination towards the suggestion.

## What the coverage left out

None of the left or centre-rated reports mention that the current White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, had served for less than a week. This detail was only present in the Telegrafi report.

## How the sides framed it

### Left

- Left-rated reports focused on Donald Trump's positive response to the idea of Nicki Minaj as press secretary. Telegrafi noted that Trump called it "a good idea" and said he would have to think about it. The Blast also reported Trump entertaining the suggestion. IBTimes UK stated Trump called it a 'good idea' but made no offer. The left-rated reports mentioned Minaj's appearance at a Michigan rally and Steven Cheung's social media post about finding a new press secretary. Telegrafi included reactions from social media users criticising the idea and comparing the administration to a "circus" and a "television spectacle."

### Centre

- Centre-rated reports highlighted Donald Trump's consideration of Nicki Minaj for the press secretary role. RadarOnline reported Trump saying "That's a good idea" and that he would have to think about it. UNILAD reported Trump breaking his silence on rumours about Minaj potentially replacing Katie Zacharia. Both RadarOnline and UNILAD mentioned Steven Cheung's social media post featuring Minaj on Air Force One. RadarOnline also detailed Trump's comments about Minaj's appearance at the Michigan rally.

### Right

- All nine right-rated digests report that President Donald Trump has not named a permanent replacement for former press secretary Karoline Leavitt. They note that he intends to rely on senior officials while a successor is chosen. Protothema, The Straits Times, Washington Examiner and the other outlets each led on this interim arrangement.
- Several digests add names of officials who might fill the role temporarily. news-pravda.com and vz.ru list Marco Rubio, Bessent, the Commerce minister Latnik and Education minister McMahon as possible interim press secretaries. Washington Examiner and WND quote Trump saying many people want the job and that a short list has been developed.
- None of the right-rated digests mention an official White House spokesperson, a cost estimate for an interim arrangement, or Nicki Minaj’s own response to the suggestion. The digests also omit any timeline for appointing a permanent press secretary.

**Provisional coverage gap:** right. The watch is not closed, so this is not yet a settled blindspot finding.
