President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on November 3, 2026, designating the week of November 1-7 as 'Anti-Communism Week'. The declaration, released on the day of the US midterm elections, frames communism and socialism as ideologies that threaten American principles and individual freedom. This marks the second consecutive year Trump has issued such a proclamation, having previously done so in November 2025. ## Disagreement on Proclamation's Purpose While the proclamation itself frames communism and socialism as threats to American ideals and individual liberty, some reports suggest a political motivation tied to the midterm elections. HuffPost noted the proclamation was issued on the day of the midterm elections, with communism being a frequent theme in Trump's pre-election rhetoric. The Washington Examiner stated the proclamation was in honor of victims of socialism and communism in other countries. CNN Brasil reported the proclamation was against 'any threat to U.S. Way of Life'. ## What the coverage left out None of the digests mention the specific content of the 'counters of damages caused' on the White House website that HuffPost referred to. Additionally, none of the digests or the full report from HuffPost specify the exact date in November 2025 when Trump previously declared an 'Anti-Communism Week'. ## Who covered it Shares of the 16 covering outlets with a published leaning rating: - Left: 19% (3) - Centre: 18% (3) - Right: 63% (10) 12 of 28 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. The outlet noted that the proclamation, while not introducing new rules, served as a political statement reflecting the priorities of Trump's administration. HuffPost highlighted Trump's framing of communism and socialism as current threats to the 'American experiment' and suggested the initiative was a precise political operation in a divided America, positioning Trump as the leader for this ideological battle. ### Centre - The centre-rated reports from Hindustan Times and The Hill focused on the dual nature of Trump's proclamations on November 3, 2026. Hindustan Times mentioned the 'Anti-Communism Week' alongside a space declaration. The Hill also noted Trump issued proclamations on space exploration and anticommunism on Election Day as polls began closing. Both digests stated the proclamation designated November 1-7 as 'Anti-Communism Week'. ### Right - Right-rated reports from Iefimerida, Daily Wire, and Washington Examiner highlighted the timing of the proclamation amidst election fever and the defence of American principles. Iefimerida stated Trump declared 'Anti-Communism Week' with America in the throes of election fever, noting the proclamation was posted on the White House website. The Daily Wire's digest framed it as Trump 'dropping the hammer on communism' as 'radical Dems eye Congress', and that the proclamation calls on Americans to 'stand firm in their defense'. Washington Examiner noted the proclamation was in honour of victims of socialism and communism in other countries and arrived on Election Day. **Provisional coverage gap:** left.
