**The short version**

- President Donald Trump pardoned two mechanics, Zachary Czubak and Patrick Fleming, onstage at a rally in Wasilla, Alaska.
- Czubak and Fleming had pleaded guilty to violating the Clean Air Act.
- Trump described the pardons as "unconditional" and "clean as a newborn baby's ass."
- The pardons were granted during a campaign stop for Republicans ahead of midterm elections.

President Donald Trump pardoned two mechanics, Zachary Czubak and Patrick Fleming, during a campaign rally in Wasilla, Alaska. The two men had pleaded guilty to violating the Clean Air Act. Trump announced the pardons onstage and described them as "unconditional."

Trump told the crowd the pardons meant the recipients were "clean as a newborn baby's ass." He also referenced Mackenzie Spurlock, another mechanic pardoned earlier this year for the same violation. The pardons occurred during a campaign stop for Republicans ahead of midterm elections.

## Disagreement on the number of pardons

While the Washington Sun, thedailybs.com, NBC News, WTX News, The Epoch Times, New York Post, khbrknews, nytimespost.com, WVII / Fox Bangor, wfmd.com, Fox News, Next News Network, and Washington Examiner reports state that two mechanics were pardoned, Attack of the Fanboy, Ekstra Bladet, and Anadolu Ajansı digests mention three mechanics were pardoned. KTSM and The Hill digests state two diesel mechanics were pardoned.

## What the coverage left out

None of the left-rated reports mention the specific phrase "clean as a newborn baby's ass" that Trump used, which was reported by centre and right-rated outlets. None of the right-rated reports mention the specific political context of the midterm elections, which was included in the left-rated report.

## Who covered it

Shares of the 43 covering outlets with a published leaning rating:

- Left: 23% (10)
- Centre: 23% (10)
- Right: 54% (23)

9 of 52 covering outlets carried no usable leaning rating and were excluded from those percentages. Coverage measured 2026-10-15T13:43:52.192Z.

## How the sides framed it

### Left

- The left-rated outlets reported that President Trump pardoned two mechanics, Zachary Czubak and Patrick Fleming, at an Alaska rally. These men had pleaded guilty to violating the Clean Air Act by tampering with emissions control devices.
- The Washington Sun, which published a full report, included direct quotes from Trump and the mechanics. The outlet also noted the pardons were sought by Republican officials and mentioned the political context of upcoming midterm elections in Alaska.
- Other left-rated outlets described the pardons as an unusual public use of clemency power. Some noted Trump's comments comparing the pardons to what Joe Biden would be unable to do, and one mentioned White House aide Natalie Harp's role in handing over documents.

### Centre

- Centre-rated reports focused on Trump pardoning two mechanics at his Alaska rally for Clean Air Act violations. Attack of the Fanboy's digest noted the pardon of Arm Rippin Toys, Inc. for a Clean Air Act charge. Ekstra Bladet's digest quoted Trump saying, "They Are Clean as a Baby's Ass."

### Right

- Right-rated reports highlighted Trump pardoning two mechanics at an Alaska rally, often framing them as "wrongfully charged" or "hounded by the Biden administration." Thedailybs.com digest stated Trump turned the rally into a "clemency ceremony." Expressen's digest reported Trump pardoned "convicted mechanics."

**Provisional coverage gap:** left. The watch is not closed, so this is not yet a settled blindspot finding.
