**Scores for the source reporting** (0-100, assessing the original journalism this article was written from, not this write-up):

- Trust 42 of 100, higher is better. Central claims attributed to named body, but relies on anonymous sourcing for some details.

**The short version**

- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described US support for Vladimir Putin as a 'historic mistake'.
- Zelensky expressed hope that US President Donald Trump would reconsider his decisions, which he views as detrimental to Ukraine and the US.
- Trump recently lifted broad sanctions against Russia, stating the move was in the US national interest.
- Zelensky indicated that intelligence sharing with the US was temporarily blocked and restrictions were placed on Starlink technology.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that US support for Russian President Vladimir Putin would be a 'historic mistake'. Zelensky expressed hope that US President Donald Trump would reconsider his decisions, believing them to be wrong and unhelpful to Ukraine or the US. Trump had recently lifted broad sanctions against Russia that were approved by Congress, stating the move was in the US national interest. Zelensky mentioned that intelligence sharing with the US was temporarily blocked, preventing Ukraine from receiving timely information on ballistic missiles. He also indicated that restrictions on the use of Starlink technology, crucial for intercepting drones, were imposed, which he believes was a response to a US government signal.

## Disagreement on Trump's motivations

While Zelensky believes Trump's decisions are wrong and unhelpful, the outlet 15min.lt reports that Trump stated the lifting of sanctions was in the US national interest. The same outlet notes that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified the sanctions relief would last 60 days for economic impact assessment, and defended a separate US-Russia deal to increase diesel supply. Trump himself positively assessed the sanctions decision, stating it would benefit the US and the world. US Vice President J.D. Vance shared positive impressions of phone calls with Putin, suggesting the Russian leader's image differs from media stereotypes.

## What the coverage left out

None of the right-rated digests mention the temporary blockage of intelligence sharing with the US or the restrictions on Starlink technology. The left-rated digest does not mention the lifting of sanctions against Russia or the diesel deal between Trump and Putin.

## How the sides framed it

### Left

- The left-rated outlets reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated it would be a historic mistake for the US to side with Russia. Several reports mentioned Zelenskyy's comments in an interview with NBC News' "Meet the Press."
- Some outlets noted Zelenskyy's belief that the US government was behind SpaceX's decision to limit Starlink access. Other reports highlighted Donald Trump's accusations that Zelenskyy did not want to end the war.
- The reports also included claims from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Zelenskyy avoids negotiations with Moscow. One outlet mentioned Zelenskyy's hope to change Trump's stance on Putin.

### Centre

- The centre-rated report from 15min.lt led with Zelensky's statement that US support for Putin would be a 'historic mistake'. The full report detailed Zelensky's comments on Trump's decisions, the lifting of sanctions, and the diesel deal. It also included Zelensky's remarks on the temporary blockage of intelligence sharing and restrictions on Starlink technology, attributing the latter to a potential US government signal. The report also noted the deterioration of relations between Trump and Zelensky and included Zelensky's comparison of open partners to 'killers'.

### Right

- The right-rated reports from EADaily, Clarin, news-pravda.com, Protothema, and Korrespondent.net focused on Zelensky's assertion that US support for Putin would be a 'historic mistake'. Clarin also noted Zelensky's criticism of the diesel deal and rejection of Starlink limitations. News-pravda.com included Zelensky's statement that losing without US support would be a tragedy. Protothema highlighted Zelensky's desire to trust Trump and hope for reconsideration of decisions. EADaily's headline stated Zelensky believes he cannot be compared with Putin and that Trump is wrong. Korrespondent.net's headline stated Zelensky warned Trump about Putin's support.

**Provisional coverage gap:** left. The watch is not closed, so this is not yet a settled blindspot finding.
