What we do
The news is not short of stories. It is short of time — almost nobody reads five outlets across the political spectrum to work out which account of the same event is the careful one.
So we do that reading. Every story on this site is written from the coverage of named news outlets, carries three published scores assessing how well that coverage was reported, and links every original report so you can go and read it yourself.
Why MediaBias News exists
Comparing coverage across the political spectrum is not a premium feature. The information that decides whether you are reading the whole story — which outlets carried it, where they sit on the spectrum, and what each side left out — sits behind a subscription almost everywhere it exists at all. Here it does not, and there is no plan for it to.
This is a new publication, founded in 2026. It has no earlier print edition, no inherited masthead and no claim on anyone else’s history. What it can be judged on is whether the sources under each story are real, complete and linked.
It does not tell you what to think about a story. It shows you who reported it, how they framed it, and what they did not say.
The newsroom
This is an AI-assisted newsroom under human editorial supervision. We would rather say that plainly at the top of the page than have you work it out and wonder what else we left unsaid.
What that means concretely:
- Language models assess the source coverage, write each article from the established facts, and draft headlines. The methodology page sets out exactly how, including which models and which prompt revision.
- Editors write and version the instructions those models follow, set the thresholds at which a draft is rejected, and are accountable for everything published.
- Where an outlet is placed on the political spectrum is a published rating from a named third party, set out on the methodology page. It is not our opinion of the outlet.
- We do not pretend articles were written by reporters who do not exist. There are no invented bylines on this site.
- We do no original on-the-ground reporting. For that, read the outlets we link to — many of them are excellent, and we say so in their scores.
Ownership and funding
MediaBias News is independently owned and operated. It is not part of a national publishing group and takes no funding from any political party, campaign group or government.
It is published by Web Design Studio London Ltd (Company No. 17306308), registered in the United Kingdom and owned by the same person. That company’s other business is web design, which has no clients in news, media or politics and no involvement in what is published here. We name it because a publication that reports who owns the outlets it rates does not get to be the one that stays quiet about its own.
Running costs are modest — hosting and the per-article cost of the models — and are currently met by the owner. Nothing on this site is behind a paywall, and nothing is sold on it. There is no advertising, and if that changes it will be labelled as advertising and said here first.
Which outlets we read
There is no fixed list. Which outlets appear under a story is decided by which outlets covered it, not by a subscription list of ours, so the set grows and changes with the news.
Every outlet we have published from, with its running score averages, is at /sources. We apply the same standard to outlets we admire as to those we do not.
