MediaBias News holds 353 news outlets that a named rating organisation places right of centre — 22% of the 1,625 outlets in our records carrying any leaning rating. Most are rated leans right rather than committed: 228 of the 353. We publish no ratings of our own.

What the rating is not

It is not a warning label, and the opposite rating is not a certificate. The three organisations behind these placements measure story selection and language over time, which is a different question from whether a given report is accurate — that is rated separately, on a separate scale, and shown separately on every row below. An outlet can be rated right-leaning and have among the highest factual records anyone awards.

It is also not unanimous. Of the 354 outlets here that two or more of the three organisations have both rated, about 57% get different verdicts — though almost all of those are one step on the scale rather than a reversal. Only 2 carry placements on opposite sides of centre, one organisation saying left where another says right. That is why every outlet page here shows all the ratings we hold instead of averaging them into a single number, and why this page names the rater on every line. The full count, and why they differ.

The useful question is not whether a source leans. It is what a story looks like when sources with different leanings report it, which is what the front page is for and what the method describes.

Strongest placement first. The bands are the rating organisations' own levels, not ours. Each name links to what we hold on that publisher: every rating with its author, factual reliability, ownership where it is on record, and the stories we have seen it cover.

How this list is kept

Every figure on this page is counted when the page is requested, not written down. A cron re-reads outlet records continuously, so an outlet whose rating changes changes here without anyone editing a paragraph. 278 of the 353 have been seen carrying a story we compared; the rest are publishers we hold a record for and have not yet encountered in coverage.

The placements on this page come from Media Bias/Fact Check (154), Ad Fontes Media (88) and AllSides (37). The count after each is how many outlets on this side that organisation has placed.
