An August 2026 appeal hearing for Karmelo Anthony, convicted of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Texas high school track meet, revealed text messages in which Anthony fantasised about stabbing someone and a photo of a knife. Prosecutors and defence had agreed to omit character evidence, including Metcalf’s juvenile record, from the original trial.
