Braskem Idesa, a joint venture between Brazil’s Braskem and Mexico’s Grupo Idesa, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US on 18 August 2026. The company expects to emerge within 90 days after cutting senior debt from $2.5bn to $1.6bn, with Braskem S.A. contributing $476m to maintain majority control.
