Hurricane Lala weakened to a tropical storm after brushing Hawaii’s Big Island on 16 August 2026, cutting power to over 200,000 utility customers and damaging at least 100 homes. Two homes were swept away, and 117 people were in shelters as warnings remained in effect for some counties.
