Anas Sarwar leaves Holyrood to join House of Lords as UK trade minister

Anas Sarwar, who led Scottish Labour until July 2024, resigned from Holyrood to take a seat in the House of Lords and a post as UK trade minister. He was sworn in on 12 September, wearing traditional robes and taking the title Baron Sarwar of Maxwell Park. His appointment drew criticism from Scotland’s first minister.
