Stephanie Benshimol, a Jewish activist and granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, confronted New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Eichler’s Judaica store in Borough Park on 2 September 2026. She accused Mamdani of failing to address rising antisemitism in the city, citing NYPD data showing a 9.4% increase in hate crimes, with 56.9% targeting Jewish people. Benshimol was removed from the store by staff.
