Seattle Times columnist Matt Calkins resigns over spiked transgender athletes column

Matt Calkins resigned from the Seattle Times on 20 August 2026 after the paper declined to publish his column on transgender athletes in women’s sports. Calkins said the decision followed interviews with student-athletes opposing transgender participation in female sports, and that the paper had rejected other proposed columns. The Seattle Times has not commented.
