UAE severs trade and financial ties with Iran after missile threat in Strait of Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates announced a full suspension of trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran on 18 August 2026, citing regional escalation after Iranian ballistic missiles were detected targeting maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has not claimed responsibility for the attacks on UAE state-owned ADNOC vessels.
