The Anak Krakatau volcano erupted on September 4-5, 2026, with an ash column observed by satellite. Loud booms were heard up to 150km away, and Indonesian authorities placed the volcano under Alert Level III, prohibiting access within a 3km radius.

A Porter Airlines flight from Victoria to Toronto was cancelled after a child refused to sit down and fasten their seatbelt, forcing the aircraft to return to the terminal. The delay caused the flight to miss the airport’s 12:30 a.m. runway closure, leaving passengers rebooked for the following day.
