Italian businessman Valter Lavitola was arrested on 10 August 2026 and accused of commissioning a bomb attack on journalist Sigfrido Ranucci in October 2025. A court order states the attack was meant to increase Ranucci’s popularity ahead of a potential political candidacy. Lavitola denies involvement.
