White House lets private cyber firms attack foreign criminal networks under supervision

The White House has authorised private cybersecurity firms to conduct offensive operations against foreign cybercrime organisations, supervised by the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security. The policy, issued on 12 August 2026, permits actions that manipulate, degrade, disrupt or destroy adversary networks but prohibits outcomes that could cause loss of life or serious injury.
